Rep. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y., is meeting with Senate Republican leadership staff on Wednesday to privately talk about the state and local tax deduction (SALT), Politico has reported.
The House-passed version of President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" boosted the SALT deduction from $10,000 to $40,000, with a new phase-out for higher earners.
LaLota was one of five Republicans from blue states who pushed to bolster the tax break, which is otherwise unpopular in the GOP conference.
Senate Republicans have since signaled they seek to push the SALT cap back down. However, LaLota has vowed vehemently to vote against Trump's signature legislation if they do so.
His meeting with Senate Republican leadership staff had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, according to Politico.
The get-together now comes on the same day as Senate Finance Chair Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, is set to brief his GOP colleagues on the tax portion of Trump's bill, which was passed by the House last month.
In addition, Senate Agriculture Chair John Boozman, R-Ark., is also set to give details to the Republican conference about scaled-down cuts to food aid programs in the massive legislation.
