CBS Poll: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin Statistically Tied

By    |   Sunday, 08 September 2024 04:26 PM EDT

The races in the key battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin show a race so tight it cannot be called, making Tuesday's debate critical, according to CBS News/YouGov polls released Sunday.

Vice President Kamala Harris leads Wisconsin by 2 points (51%-49%) and Michigan by 1 point (50%-49%), but Pennsylvania is a dead heat at (50%-50%). All three battleground polls are well within the margins of error, making those pivotal states statistical ties.

The polls went state by state to take the pulse of a razor-thin race.

Key Michigan findings:

  • 67% say things are going at least somewhat badly in America today.
  • 57% call Harris' policies "mainstream."
  • 55% call Trump's policies "extreme."
  • 75% consider housing in Michigan at least somewhat "unaffordable."

Key Pennsylvania findings:

  • 70% say things are going at least somewhat badly.
  • 54% call Harris' policies "mainstream."
  • 56% call Trump's policies "extreme."
  • 74% consider housing in Pennsylvania at least somewhat "unaffordable."

Key Wisconsin findings:

  • 67% say things are going at least somewhat badly.
  • 56% call Harris' policies "mainstream."
  • 58% call Trump's policies "extreme."
  • 77% consider housing in Wisconsin at least somewhat "unaffordable."

Trump leads in these battlegrounds among voters who think they were better off in his administration, and on incomes keeping up with inflation.

The CBS News/YouGov surveys were conducted Sept. 3-6 among 1,086 registered voters in Michigan, 1,085 in Pennsylvania, and 958 in Wisconsin. The margins of error were plus or minus 3.7, 3.5, and 4.0 percentage points, respectively.
