AP Exit Poll: 80 Percent Say 'Substantial Change' Needed

Eighty percent of U.S. voters want "substantial change" in how the country is being run, according to an Associated Press Election Day exit poll.

AP VoteCast, an extensive survey of more than 110,000 voters nationwide, also found that:

• About half of former President Donald Trump voters called high prices the biggest issue factoring into their election decisions.
• About half his backers labeled the economy and jobs as the top issues facing the country.
• About 3 in 10 of Vice President Kamala Harris' supporters called the economy a top issue, while 2 in 10 said abortion and 1 in 10 named healthcare or climate change.
• Two-thirds of Harris voters said the future of democracy was the most important factor for their votes.
• Nearly 6 in 10 said Trump lacked the moral character to be president, while slightly more than half described Trump as a strong leader.
• About 6 in 10 said Harris has the mental capability to serve effectively as president compared with half who said that about Trump.
• About 4 in 10 Trump voters said they sought complete and total upheaval in how the country is run compared with 2 in 10 Harris supporters.

The survey was conducted for eight days, concluding as polls closed.
