Ric Grenell to Newsmax: Debate Moderators' Bias Against Trump a Gift

By    |   Tuesday, 10 September 2024 11:45 PM EDT

Ric Grenell, former acting Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration, told Newsmax on Tuesday night the bias shown by ABC News' moderators against Donald Trump in his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris was a gift for the former president.

Moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis often fact-checked Trump on his answers while letting Harris get away with misstatements made against the former president.

"Millions of people are watching tonight for the first time," Grenell told hosts Greg Kelly and Mercedes Schlapp as part of Newsmax's post-debate coverage. "What the ABC moderators just did is completely prove to these millions of people that the media are out to get Donald Trump. We couldn't have scripted this better. Both moderators were so over the top attacking Trump and not attacking [Harris].

"My phone was lighting up from my friends and family, people who don't normally watch politics, who could vote either way, saying things like, wow, the media is so biased, look at them going after Trump."

Grenell, who also was the U.S. ambassador to Germany under Trump, said he noticed the former president appeared visibly bothered by the moderators' treatment of him.

"He's looking around being like, are you not going to fact check her and only fact check me?" Grenell said. "So, I love the gift that the American people just saw just how terrible the media is and how much they're out to get Donald Trump. He kept trying to talk about solutions, and [Harris] kept attacking him. I hope the media, who always say we don't want personal attacks from Donald Trump, recognize that all Kamala Harris did tonight was attack Donald Trump in ruthless ways, mean-spirited ways.

"She was very nasty about that, and I hope that she gets called out for that. She wasn't talking about policies because she missed the opportunity to explain all of these videos that we've been seeing of her as a radical … Californian. We know her policies, and she didn't explain any of those. She just kept attacking Trump."
