Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is hypocritical for asking Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to commit to not taking money from lawsuits aimed at vaccine makers if he is confirmed as secretary of Health and Human Services, NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said Wednesday.
"There have been questions about her, how much money she was worth when she came in. Now she's worth a lot more. How'd that happen? How'd that happen? So, you know, I was there when Elizabeth Warren was first introduced to the national audience," Cuomo said on his NewsNation show, "Cuomo."
"I was at ABC. She was brought in as a fair broker in the recession of 2008 about the bailouts and the big shots and [Troubled Asset Relief Program] and [Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility]. And she was great at that. But now she's just playing the game."
"Here's why I say that: How can she be so angry at Kennedy for parsing a position on something as common as making money after when he's done serving when she has a history of fudging on a position that actually mattered?" he asked.
Warren questioned RFK Jr. whether he would continue to take money from lawsuits he referred against drug companies — he previously profited from a consulting deal with Wisner Baum, a law firm suing Merck over claims that the pharmaceutical company failed to properly warn consumers about risks from its HPV vaccine, Gardasil.
Kennedy will only collect the fees if Wisner Baum wins and only for cases that aren't against the United States or in which the United States isn't a party and doesn't have "a direct or substantial interest," according to new filings with the Office of Government Ethics.
