A political action committee funded by liberal billionaire George Soros continues to work to turn Texas blue.
Texas Majority PAC will launch a "Blue Texas" initiative Monday along with the Texas Democratic Party and a group of county parties, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The coalition's goal is to gather volunteers, recruit candidates, and boost Democrat turnout ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The longer-term aim is to make the Lone Star State a battleground by 2032 following the next round of redistricting.
"If a win is on the table in 2026, we don’t want to leave it there by not being organized," said Katherine Fischer, the deputy executive director of Texas Majority PAC, the Journal reported.
This is not the first time Texas Majority PAC has tried to change Texas' political landscape.
In January 2024, The Texas Tribune reported the Soros-backed Texas Majority was pouring funds into "various regions" in hopes of swaying the state. Fox News reported Soros contributed more than $3 million to liberal groups over the previous year to help Democrats gain traction in the GOP stronghold.
The Journal reported Monday that Soros donated $2.1 million to Texas Majority in 2024 and $1 million in April.
Texas Majority, the state Democratic Party, and the Blue Texas alliance collectively spent about $35 million in the 2024 election cycle, the media outlet added.
Democrats haven’t won a statewide election since 1994. President Donald Trump won the state three times, including last year when he defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris by nearly 14 percentage points.
Republicans have won every presidential election in Texas since 1980. The last Democrat U.S. senator to win an election in the state was Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.
In November, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was reelected to a third term despite Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Soros spending millions of dollars to defeat him.
"We are still in the middle of an epic battle," Cruz told Newsmax’s "Finnerty" before the election, "Chuck Schumer has been explicit that I'm his No. 1 target in the country. And they are flooding the state of Texas with cash. This is right now the single most expensive Senate race in the entire country. Chuck Schumer and George Soros are spending more than $100 million trying to beat me.”
In 2026, Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn will face a primary challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
