Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has defeated Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, in their Senate race to earn a third term.
Newsmax called the race for Cruz with 77% of the precincts reporting and the incumbent holding more than a 9-point lead. Cruz entered Election Day with a 4.4-point lead, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Cruz held off Allred despite a strong play by Senate Democrats, who spent north of $100 million in support of Allred.
“Chuck Schumer has named me his No. 1 target in the country. And Chuck Schumer and George Soros have flooded over $100 million into the state of Texas. They are hammering me,” Cruz told Newsmax on Monday. “Every other ad on TV is an attack ad, and they are trying to flip Texas.
Allred took aim at Cruz's support for the state's six-week abortion ban. Cruz countered by highlighting Allred's support for men competing in women's sports.
Cruz earned 47% of the female vote to Allred's 51%, according to exit polls, NBC News reported.
