Insulted Rep. Mace to Rep. Crockett: Can 'Take It Outside'

By    |   Wednesday, 15 January 2025 03:28 PM EST

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., asked Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, if she wanted to "take it outside" after the Lone Star State Democrat referred to her as "child" during a Tuesday meeting of the House Oversight Committee.

According to the New York Post, the purpose of the meeting was to introduce new members and approve the rules for the House panel, but it spiraled out of control when Crockett suggested that Mace was trying to raise money for her campaign by working to ban transgender women from female spaces at the Capitol.

"I can see that somebody's campaign coffers really are struggling right now," Crockett said, referring to Mace. "So she's gonna keep saying trans, trans, trans, so that people will feel threatened."

"And child, listen," she added, before being cut off by Mace.

"I am no child!" Mace shouted. "Do not call me a child! I am no child. Don't even start. I am a grown woman. I am 47 years old."

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., banged his gavel repeatedly in an attempt to bring the meeting to order as Crockett, 43, and Mace continued to talk over each other.

"You will not do that," the South Carolina Republican told Crockett. "I am not a child. If you want to take it outside, we can do that."

The Post reported that Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., moved to have Mace's "take it outside" comment stricken from the record, but Comer claimed she was not actually challenging her Democrat colleague to a physical altercation.

"What the gentlelady said … that could mean we can go outside and have a cup of coffee or maybe a beer — we have lots of conversations outside," Comer said.

Crockett took to social platform X after the explosive meeting to tell her side of the story.

"Today, I introduced an amendment to reinstate the Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties," Crockett wrote. "My Republican colleague threatened to physically fight me about it. Bless her heart."

Meanwhile, in her own post on X, Mace sought to clear up "a lot of speculation" about her intentions during the "heated exchange on women's rights earlier today on Oversight."

"Let me be clear: I wanted to take the conversation off the floor to have a more constructive conversation, not to fight," she wrote. "At no point was there any intention of causing harm to anyone."

"I was just assaulted by a pro tr*ns man a few weeks ago and am still in physical therapy for my injuries," she said. "I know firsthand how the Left is capable of doing real physical harm."

"I will not be bullied into submission, I will not be called names by my colleagues like I was today, I will not be belittled, or invalidated — especially as a rape survivor," Mace added. "I will always stand up for women and push back against left-wing extremism that seeks to silence our voices and dismiss our rights."

This isn't the first time Crockett has tangled with a Republican congresswoman during a House Oversight Committee meeting.

Last May, she locked horns with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., after Greene accused her of wearing "fake eyelashes" during a hearing on moving forward with a contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Crockett fired back that Greene had a "bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body."
