President-elect Donald Trump is accusing President Joe Biden's Justice Department of pressuring Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to bring the "lawless" case of falsifying business records in which he was convicted.
Trump's broadside was a shift from his longstanding criticism of Bragg over the case.
"D.A. Alvin Bragg never wanted to bring this lawless case against me," Trump wrote Sunday on Truth Social. "He was furious at the way it was handled, and especially angry at MARK POMERANTZ for his behavior, and what he did."
Pomerantz was recruited by Bragg's predecessor Cy Vance, to investigate Trump and pressed Vance to bring criminal charges in the case.
"Ultimately, the Biden/Harris DOJ forced Bragg to concoct anything to embarrass TRUMP. But it was even more so what the CORRUPT and TOTALLY CONFLICTED POLITICAL HACK Judge did, and is doing, on this sham trial," Trump continued.
Trump also blasted Judge Juan Merchan's gag order against him.
Trump's post comes days after Merchan announced he was going to expedite a sentence in the case, teasing that he would ultimately give Trump no punishment before he takes presidential office Jan. 20.
Trump was convicted of falsifying business records for calling 2017 payments to former attorney Michael Cohen as a legal expense, while prosecutors said he was reimbursing Cohen for paying off porn performer Stormy Daniels to remain silent during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
"I even have, STILL, an Unconstitutional Gag Order where I am not allowed to speak about the Judge's highly disqualifying Conflicts of Interest," Trump's post continued. "Virtually ever legal scholar and pundit says THERE IS NO (ZERO!) CASE AGAINST ME."
"The Judge fabricated the facts, and the law, no different than the other New York Judicial and Prosecutorial Witch Hunts," he concluded in his post. "That's why businesses are fleeing New York, taking with them millions of jobs, and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TAXES.
"The legal system is broken, and businesses can't take a chance in getting caught up in this quicksand. IT'S ALL RIGGED, in this case against a political opponent, ME!!!"
Merchan, who presided over Trump's trial, signaled in a written decision Friday he would sentence the former and future president to what is known as a conditional discharge, in which a case gets dismissed if a defendant avoids rearrest.
