The Trump administration is pausing the transfer of thousands of foreigners to the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba partly because of the riots in Los Angeles, reports Politico.
The unrest, one administration official told the news outlet, "got in the way."
The report comes a day after Politico and The Washington Post reported that the administration was vetting at least 9,000 migrants for transfer to the base, including people from France, Britain, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Haiti, and Italy.
The White House called the stories "fake news."
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, when asked Thursday about the apparent delay, told Politico: "That's not true. It was never a plan to begin with."
