Trump Campaign Slams 'SNL' for Rally Shooting Jokes

By    |   Sunday, 29 September 2024 08:40 PM EDT

The Trump campaign lashed out at "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend on X after the television show's season premiere included a skit about the July assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

"There were two assassination attempts against President Trump within a span of seven weeks," the Trump campaign posted on X. "@nbcsnl apparently finds that funny. Disgusting."

Actor James Austin Johnson played Trump in the skit and referenced the assassination attempt that took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, as he parodied the former president at one of his rallies.

"Where the hell is everyone going? Where are you going?" Johnson said in the skit. "I see you trying to leave, but the doors are locked. Come on back — we're having fun. We love my rallies, except when someone does the 'bing, bong, bing, bing, bing' right at me. You know that happened, because of the rhetoric of the radical left? They say that me blaming the Democrats for inciting violence is the pot calling the kettle black."

Fox News reported that SNL also talked about the assassination attempts during the "Weekend Update" segment, as Colin Jost joked that he was "starting to worry that bullet got a little more than just the ear," after playing a clip of Trump saying at a recent rally that he has a better "body" than President Joe Biden.
