National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly considering making intelligence presentations for President Trump more in line with his preferences for taking in fresh information.
NBC reported that the presentation, called the President’s Daily Brief (PDB), has not always been presented on a true daily basis.
President Donald Trump gets the intelligence assessment less often than former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Part of the reason for that may be Trump’s constant engagement with staff, reporters, and online media, and his typical daily schedule, which outlasts nearly everyone around him.
Barely two weeks after his inauguration for a second term, the New York Post reported, “In less than three weeks, he has shaken up America and the world with nonstop activity.” The report said Trump’s “days start at 6 a,m, and often end close to midnight.”
Gabbard wants to develop a more suitable format for presenting intelligence to a president who needs time-specific information rather than the background, which, in many cases, he already grasps.
NBC reported one possibility for the Trump PDB is a video presentation in the format of a TV news show. Since Trump watches a fair amount of TV news broadcasts, that might be suitable.
There is precedent for something like that. Famed actor Charlton Heston was recruited to host films for internal use only by the Energy Department, which required him to have a top-level security clearance.
The NBC report indicated that Gabbard wants the updated PDB to focus more on information that Trump is most interested in, such as the economy and trade issues, and reduce time spent on things like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. An unnamed source told NBC that former President Biden’s PDBs included information on gender and climate change issues.
