Reps. Foxx, Good: 'Bidenomics' Not Working

By    |   Monday, 26 August 2024 08:45 PM EDT

Two House lawmakers sent a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris Monday after the Bureau of Labor Statistics made a downward revision — the largest in 15 years — to recent jobs data.

In the letter, Education and the Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., and Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee Chair Bob Good, R-Va., called out the Biden-Harris administration for its "radical policies," which they say "are hurting American workers and businesses."

Foxx and Good wrote, "For nearly four years, the Biden-Harris administration has touted the supposed 'successes' of 'Bidenomics.' All the while, American families and businesses have suffered. In your March 2024 State of the Union address, you lauded record-breaking jobs numbers and an economy that was 'the envy of the world.'

"However," they wrote, "the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently shattered that illusion by publishing revised jobs data which clearly demonstrates this is not the case."

The Aug. 21 BLS report said that 818,000 fewer jobs were created in the 12 months through March of this year.

Foxx and Good called the level of revision "highly unusual," adding, "While the discrepancy between the purported and actual job numbers is staggering, it is not surprising to workers and businesses.

"Since the Biden-Harris administration came into office, prices have increased nearly 20 percent, the savings rate has dropped to 3.2 percent, and one-third of Americans paid a late fee on bills this year.

"The August 21 jobs data from BLS makes it clear that Bidenomics is not working, and Americans are hurting."

They concluded by saying that under GOP leadership, the House "is on the side of the American people and is strengthening our economy by pushing back on the Biden-Harris administration's burdensome overreach and reckless spending."
