The latest round of Coronavirus restrictions by Democrats would be laughable if they weren’t so serious. It’s curious that a "pandemic" whose death rate has dropped so precipitously in recent months has rebounded so dramatically since two things have happened:
1.) Donald Trump has refused to concede the election.
2.) Two companies have announced vaccines that are more than 95% effective.
What’s more curious and confounding is the fact that despite mandated facemasks, closures and social distancing, the virus infection rate has increased 10 times in states like California.
In other words, business and school closings, concert cancellations, severely limited spectator sports restrictions and all the rest have done nothing to stop the spread of the virus.
In Michigan, new restrictions including no singing in church. No kidding.
In New York, the governor wants to kick down your door and make sure you have no more than 10 people at your Thanksgiving gathering. In Pennsylvania, the governor in the Keystone State, Tom Wolf, has mandated masks at indoor gatherings even in private homes.
In California, there is a curfew for citizens who live in the "purple" infection zone.
Yet, somehow politicians ignore their own restrictions flagrantly which makes one wonder: Do they have a death wish, or do they not believe the nonsense they’re telling us?
I'd venture it’s the latter.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, has instituted the harshest restrictions on businesses and private gatherings, yet he attended a 50th birthday party of a friend at an indoor restaurant, doing so for hours; this occurred sans face masks or social distancing.
U.S. House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., presides over a district that shut down all salons. Yet, she risked her life to get a cut and color at her favorite hair emporium.
Surely, if the virus was as contagious and deadly, her last cut and color would have merely made for a lovely look at the hospital.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney closed down indoor dining at the city’s restaurants, but he apparently heard Maryland restaurants were safe, so he went there to dine indoors.
Surely the mayor must have thought this was his last supper, so he might as well enjoy it.
In California, there are severe travel restrictions and quarantines, but members of the California legislature went to Hawaii for a conference at a $500 a night resort.
It was the trip of the end of a lifetime.
George Orwell’s "1984" has been used analogously for decades in Apple Computer commercials and popular culture, but in my life I have never seen them so closely mirror the actions of nouveau Democratic totalitarians in the age of the coronavirus.
Orwell wrote, "Everything other than working was forbidden: walking in the streets, having fun, singing, dancing, getting together, everything was forbidden."
I’ve said for years we are living in Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities" where our highest elected officials are the proletariat, and we are the lowly bourgeoisie.
Washington, D.C. politicians live high on the hog while we fight for the crumbs.
They are immune to prosecution, and once elected, they are awarded for life with pensions, benefits, and book deals.
That was bad enough, living in Orwell’s "1984" is much more dangerous.
If politicians can mandate singing in church or curfew you at your home, they can do anything.
Thus, dear Democrats, with regard to Thanksgiving COVID-19 restrictions, make like a turkey and stuff it.
