A 100-year-old skydiver celebrated his birthday by jumping out of a plane and hopes to do it again next year.
Robert “Stu” Willliamson of Seattle said he wants to set a new Guinness World Record for being the oldest skydiver, a title currently held by Bryson William Verdun Hayes of Devon, England, who set the record by skydiving at the age of 101 years and 38 days.
“If I live another [year] and two months, I’ll bump him out of his place,” Williamson told InsideEdition.com. “I’ll have a reason to live.”
The 100-year-old skydiver made the leap from an altitude of 14,000 feet on July 22. It was his second time skydiving; the first was on his 99th birthday last year.
"You get a real shot of adrenaline when you look out the door, then it’s a real piece of cake after that,” Williamson told KIRO 7 News of his birthday celebrations.
Although he hasn’t yet set a world record, he’s officially the oldest person ever to jump with Skydive Snohomish.
When he came down to Earth, he reportedly hugged his grandson and exclaimed, “Let’s do it again!” according to The Seattle Times. Then he hugged his instructor and jump buddy Vladimir Ursachii.
The Times reported Williamson had always been a rather quiet man in years past, “who never had much use for sports,” according to family members. Accordingly, they’re “still somewhat incredulous” about “his sudden interest in falling from the sky.”
