Kelsey Grammer Clarifies Fallout With Ted Danson After 30-Year Rift

"Cheers" star Kelsey Grammer set the record straight about his reported fallout with co-star Ted Danson.

Last year, Danson apologized to Grammer for "getting angry" on the set of the hit sitcom, saying it ultimately led to him missing out "on the last 30 years of Kelsey Grammer."

"I feel like it's my bad, my doing," he told Grammer during an appearance on the "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" podcast with Woody Harrelson, according to the New York Post. But in a new interview with the outlet, Grammer said that there was never a serious feud between them.

"It got a little blown out of proportion," Grammer, 69, said. "There really wasn't an argument. It was at a time in my life when I was actually going through a lot of self-doubt, self-loathing, honestly."

Grammer noted that at the time he was "drinking a lot" when his co-star, 77, approached him.

"Ted had just come up and said, 'You know, I'm kind of mad at you that sometimes you don't show up ready to go.' And I said, 'OK, I respect that.' And that actually was sort of it," he said.

Reflecting on the moment, he continued, "Now maybe what happened for Ted was, he stepped away from what might have been a better friendship … maybe he had to protect himself. I've always thought of him with the most loving kind of remembrance and fondness. Same with Woody. Woods and I have actually stayed in touch a bit more than Ted and I have. That's still an active sort of friendship — we were emailing just last week. We're still around."

Elsewhere in the interview, Grammer laid to rest speculation of a "Cheers" revival, firmly saying the sitcom "will not come back." However, he and Danson "might actually visit something together," he revealed.

"We've been talking about a couple of ideas, maybe on 'Frasier,'" he said. "There's certainly still some fields to be mined there in terms of that relationship. As long as it's still a relevant relationship, it would be relevant for the show."
