Hugh Grant has revealed "strange" details of his battle with coronavirus. During a remote appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," the 60-year-old actor shared that he and his wife, Anna Eberstein, both caught the virus in February. Grant admitted he began to panic as his symptoms worsened.

"It started as just a very strange syndrome where I kept breaking into a terrible sweat. It was like a poncho of sweat, embarrassing really," he told Colbert, per Fox News. "Then my eyeballs felt about three sizes too big and this feeling as though some enormous man was sitting on my chest, sort of Harvey Weinstein or someone."

Grant recalled the moment he realized he had lost his sense of smell.

"I thought, 'I don’t know what this is,' and then I was walking down the street one day and I thought, 'I can’t smell a damn thing,' and you start to panic," he said. "I started sniffing flowers, nothing. And you get more and more desperate. I started sniffing in garbage cans. You know, you want to sniff strangers' armpits because you just can't smell anything."

In a desperate attempt, Grant said he grabbed his wife's Chanel No. 5 upon arriving home and sprayed it directly into his face.

"Couldn’t smell a thing, but I did go blind!" he quipped.

Grant, who said a recent test revealed he now has antibodies, is quarantining with Eberstein and his three children in London. He shares two daughters with Eberstein and a son with his ex, Tinglan Hong.

Grant joins a growing list of celebrities who have contracted COVID-19. Last week "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam told Jimmy Kimmel he had the virus earlier this year and admitted he was concerned he may have it again.

"My partner [Morgana McNelis] wasn't feeling that great and so I made us coffee and I asked her to take a sip and I said 'can you taste that' and there was this sort of moment when she said 'oh no I can't,'" he explained. "It was very early on, and so that piece of this hadn't really come to light as a symptom of mild COVID."

The couple soon discovered they had the coronavirus. They lost their sense of taste and smell for 10 days and Hunnam said he also felt "a little bit of fatigue," but now the actor said he has been experiencing a persistent fever, dry cough, and fatigue.

"So it could be COVID," he told Kimmel. "I might be unfairly jumping to conclusions but it feels fairly consistent," he added.
