Jamie Foxx had to get stitches after an altercation at a Beverly Hills restaurant during his birthday dinner, his representative confirmed.
The incident took place Friday as Foxx celebrated his 57th birthday. His representative explained that someone at another table "threw a glass that hit him in the mouth" and the matter is now in "law enforcement's hands," according to the BBC.
The rep added that the actor "had to get stitches and is recovering."
Beverly Hills Police confirmed they responded to reports of an altercation at Mr. Chow, a luxury Chinese restaurant, after reports of an assault involving a deadly weapon. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities learned that a physical altercation had occurred between two parties, though the cause of the dispute remains unclear.
The Foxx representive told the media that the actor was at the restaurant for a celebratory gathering, though police did not name him.
Foxx seemingly alluded to the incident on social media, writing, "The devil is a lie. Can’t win here."
He went on to thank friends and fans for praying for and checking in on him.
"When your light is shining bright ... they try to bring you darkness ... but they don’t know that you’re built for it," he continued. "The lights have been shining bright..."
Last week Foxx finally revealed the unspecified medical emergency he suffered in April last year that nearly killed him. At the time, the Academy Award winner spent several weeks in the hospital. Information pertaining to the ordeal has been limited, but last week, during his comedy special "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was ...," the comedian and actor revealed that he suffered a "brain bleed that led to a stroke."
"Before I could get the aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don't remember 20 days," he added, according to People.
Foxx's daughter Corinne Foxx initially stated he suffered a "medical complication," though the family didn't provide further details on his health condition.
