Jason Kelce Won't Be Charged Over Cellphone Incident With Fan

By    |   Wednesday, 11 December 2024 12:43 PM EST

Retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce will not face charges from police after a November altercation with a fan.

Penn State University police confirmed that the case was closed in a statement to The Guardian.

"The individual in the video footage circulating on social media has not been identified, and no one has come forward to University Police with a related complaint about damage to personal property," read the statement.

The incident took place before a game between Penn State and Ohio State. Video footage circulating on X shows Kelce walking to the stadium surrounded by a crowd of fans. Some call his name, asking for a fist bump, while another man nearby shouts a homophobic slur about his Kansas City Chiefs brother, Travis, for dating Taylor Swift.

Kelce reacts by taking the man's phone and smashing it to the ground before picking it back up again and walking away.

A second video of the incident shows the man trying to retrieve his phone from the ground as Kelce, who got to the phone first, hurls the slur back at him.

Kelce later apologized for the ordeal.

"I'm not happy with anything that took place. I'm not proud of it," he said at the start of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN, according to People. "Within a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I don't think that's a productive thing. I don't think it leads to discourse."

He added: "In that moment I fell down to a level that I shouldn't have. Bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rules. That's what I've always been taught. I try to treat people with decency and respect. I'm going to keep doing that moving forward."
