Jeff Bridges' cancer is in remission.
"The Big Lebowski" star, who announced his lymphoma diagnosis last year, shared the good news in a handwritten note posted on his website, explaining that his "'9 x 12' mass has shrunk down to the size of a marble." Bridges also revealed that he had contracted COVID-19 earlier this year and admitted it was a tough battle.
"[COVID] kicked my a** pretty good," he wrote, "but I'm double vaccinated and feeling much better now."
In a previously unpublished note, Bridges explained that while his wife, Susan Geston, spent five days in the hospital, he spent five weeks there. This was because his immune system was weakened by the chemotherapy he was receiving.
"My dance with [COVID] makes my cancer look like a piece of cake," he wrote, adding that while he had "moments of tremendous pain" as he got "close to the pearly gates," he felt "happy and joyous most of the time."
"This brush with mortality has brought me a real gift," he continued. "Life is brief & beautiful. Love is all around us, & available [at] all times. It's a matter of opening ourselves to receive the gift. We, (I) often want some other gift that life isn't giving us. I mean, who would want to get cancer & [COVID]? Well... it turns out I would. I would, because I get to learn more about love, & learn things that I never would have if I never got it."
Bridges also wrote about achieving his goal of being strong enough to walk his daughter Hayley down the aisle and sharing the father-daughter dance "without oxygen."
Bridges first revealed his cancer diagnosis in October last year and said he was feeling positive about treatment.
"As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light. I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma," he posted on social media at the time. "Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I'm starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery."
Since then he has been keeping fans updated with his treatment and battle with cancer.
Bridges has been nominated seven times for an Oscar, including for one of his early roles in the black-and-white movie "The Last Picture Show," finally winning for his performance of an aging country singer in 2009's "Crazy Heart." He also starred in "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" next to Clint Eastwood, and "The Fabulous Baker Boys," in which he played a jazz musician alongside his brother Beau.
