In a recent interview, actor Jim Carrey opened up about his decision to take a break from Hollywood, saying that he wanted to get "out of people's faces."
Carrey recently reprised his role as chief villain Dr. Robotnik in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" two years after saying he had "done enough" acting and was "fairly serious" about retiring. In an interview with E! News, he said the break was needed.
"I think whenever you step away from something — even if it's something you love — you get a new appreciation for it," Carrey told the outlet at the Los Angeles premiere Dec. 16. "A different angle on the whole thing."
The "Ace Ventura" star, 62, said he's never taken himself "too seriously," so he enjoyed the time away.
"I also value getting out of people's faces," Jim said. "I mean, some people just want to be in people's faces all the time, and I don't, so I like to give them a rest."
Carrey added that he was grateful for his fans who have stuck with him.
"I appreciate it. I'm gratified by it," he said.
Earlier this month, Carrey spoke about coming out of retirement, saying he needed the money.
"I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it's just … I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly," he said.
Carrey first shared his plans to retire in an interview with "Access Hollywood" in March 2022.
"Well, I'm retiring. Yeah, probably. I'm being fairly serious," he said at the time. "I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough."
