Jim Carrey has come under fire for reportedly acting like a "sleazebag" towards Heat Magazine's Charlotte Long during an interview in which he said she was on his "bucket list."
The 58-year-old actor passed the remark during a discussion about "Sonic the Hedgehog," in which Carrey plays the evil villain, Dr. Robotnik.
"In the film, Sonic has a bucket list, I was wondering, after all you've done in your career and in your life, is there anything still left on your bucket list?" Long asked the star, according to Fox News.
"Just you," he responded. "That's it, it's all done now."
Long laughed the comment off.
"I don't know what to say to that," she said.
"Just own it," Carrey replied.
The comment set social media alight.
"Unfortunately it turns out Jim Carrey is a massive sleazebag," said one Twitter user, who was slammed by followers who felt the whole ordeal was taken out of context.
In response, the same user sarcastically wrote that he too "would much prefer a world where it's fine to harass women who are doing their jobs."
The backlash towards Carrey was far and wide.
"Such a huge of @JimCarrey but lost respect for him today. This is really unacceptable, I wish and hope he apologizes to you. But you handled it really well, more Power to you!" one tweet to Long read, per Fox News.
"Whyyy is this kind of thing still going on? Well handled, you're a legend x," another tweeted to Long.
Others defended Carrey.
"I am sure he was referring to doing the interview with her. Everyone seems to want to be a victim or to be outraged these days," one user wrote.
"It was just a joke...is this how serious people nowadays? Good lord...," another user said.
This is the latest wave of criticism Carrey has faced. Over the last few months, he has been wreaking havoc on social media with his controversial artwork tackling controversial topics.
Last year he could not resist taking a swipe at Lori Loughlin's involvement in the cheating scandal. He also caused a stir for a cartoon aimed at Donald Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway and her husband, as well as for a separate piece of art that targets Trump.
