Lady Gaga has always been vocal about her struggles with mental health and has now admitted to having suicidal thoughts "every day." At one point during her career, the pop icon felt completely burnt out and resentful at having to be in the limelight. She revealed that it was fame that nearly pushed her over the edge.

"I totally gave up on myself. I hated being famous, I hated being a star," Gaga said in an interview with CBS News' "Sunday Morning." "I felt exhausted and used up."

Constantly being in the public eye was becoming too much, but there were also times when Gaga needed her emotional state to be seen.

"It's not always easy if you have mental issues to let other people see. I used to show, I used to self-harm," she explained. "I used to say, 'Look, I cut myself, see I'm hurting.' Because I didn't think anyone could see, because mental health, it's invisible."

Gaga said she began to hate herself and eventually it all became too much. Her life seemed hopeless.

"I didn't really understand why I should live, other than to be there for my family," she said.

Gaga's story could have been very different if it were not for the help of friends and family, who were able to pull her out of the dark mental place she was in. Music also helped the "Poker Face" singer, who channeled all her pain into her latest album, "Chromatica." The experience was cathartic and helped her overcome many of her struggles.

"I don't hate Lady Gaga anymore," she said. "I found a way to love myself again. Even when I thought that was never gonna happen."
