Grammy winner Lupe Fiasco will be joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute as a visiting professor.
The rapper is set to teach a rap course that forms part of the university's new four-year hip-hop program, which will launch in 2025 at the Peabody Conservatory 2025.
"Thrilled to share that I'll be joining the faculty at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute in Fall 2025 as a Distinguished Visiting Professor, teaching Rap as part of the groundbreaking new 4-year Hip Hop Degree Program led by the visionary Professor @wendelpatrickofficialmusic," Fiasco wrote to Instagram.
"The @peabodyinstitute is one of the oldest music conservatories in America," he continued. "World renowned for its rigorous training and for producing some of the world's greatest musicians, and I'm honored to contribute to this legacy doing what I love most, Rap."
In addition to teaching, Fiasco will still teach at MIT while also pursuing his fellowship at Yale University.
The new program will blend Peabody's Music Engineering and Performance expertise, according to a description on its website. Led by award-winning producer Wendel Patrick, the program offers one-on-one training with top professionals in turntable, rapping, and production, focusing on performance and authenticity.
The program will also offer courses on hip-hop's cultural history, sociopolitical context, and its rise in style, technique, and influence.
Similarly, renowned musician and producer, Brian Eno is teaching a course on songwriting for the School Of Song's January 2025 program, according to NME.
The upcoming course, "Songwriting With Brian Eno," will run over a month and feature Eno himself leading a series of virtual sessions. Participants can expect four Zoom lectures, interactive Q&A sessions, and song-sharing opportunities. Additionally, there will be a live in-class songwriting exercise, offering students direct engagement with Eno. The course will cover key topics such as The Role of Surrender, Avant Gardening, Oblique Strategies, and more.
