Sandra Bullock Worried After Scammers Target Sister

By    |   Wednesday, 05 February 2025 10:44 AM EST

Sandra Bullock is concerned about her family after scammers impersonated her sister.

"My family's safety, as well as the innocent people being taken advantage of, is my deep concern, and there will be a time when I will comment more, but for now our focus is helping law enforcement handle this matter,” the 60-year-old actor said in a statement to People on Monday.

"Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media. Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me."

Bullock spoke out after her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, 54, revealed that numerous fake accounts impersonating her have been circulating on Facebook. Accompanying a video where she scrolled through the fraudulent profiles, she wrote, "Another day, the same lack of safety and response from @meta @metaforbusiness @zuck."

Bullock-Prado said she spent "multiple times a day reporting fakes," and "dealing with weird & scary emails" from men who "believe that, through one of these many fake 'me's, they have a relationship with my sister through private messages and off app sites." At times, these men claim to have been giving  "thousands of dollars" to who they thought was Bullock.

Bullock-Prado added: "These accounts are run by crime rings. They also run fake groups where a fake me posts 'official statements.' Not me."

She also shared a link to a recent story about a French woman who was scammed by a fake Brad Pitt AI account. The account claimed the actor needed her help to pay for cancer treatment. The 53-year-old woman ended up losing more than $800,000.

"The fact that I'm put in danger, as is my livelihood, doesn't mean a damn thing. If you see a fake account, are friended or messaged by one, report and block," Bullock-Prado continued. "The only reason I stay on FB is to monitor this for my own knowledge so I am aware of the danger coming at me."

Earlier this year, Pitt released a statement condemning scammers using fake profiles to dupe people out of money.

"It's awful that scammers take advantage of fans' strong connection with celebrities," Pitt said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. "But this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence."
