Actor Steve Guttenberg stepped up to assist firefighters in areas affected by the blazes raging in Los Angeles.
The star, known for his roles in "Three Men and a Baby," "Police Academy," and "Short Circuit," has lived in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood for 30 years and on Tuesday took action to help his community.
As Entertainment Weekly reported, streets were clogged amid evacuations, with some abandoning their cars without leaving keys behind. The actor spent Tuesday helping fire crews clear cars to allow emergency vehicles through wildfire-affected areas.
"Well, what happened was the fire got so close and everybody was trying to get out that it became sort of a little bit of a panic," Guttenberg told the outlet.
Reflecting on the chaos as people rushed to safety, Guttenberg stressed that it was vital to help others.
"In a crisis, always remember that you are, you're part of a community," he said, "and if you're able-bodied, you've got to help. You've got to help. You can't walk by somebody when they need something. You just can't walk by them. You have to help them. There are a lot of people who need help. Some people are so scared. Some people are in wheelchairs, some people are old or infirm, and you need to help them, and you can't just walk by."
Seeing vehicles lined up, Guttenberg said he had to take action.
"I knew that we needed emergency vehicles through there," he explained. "And I wasn't the only one. But I started just moving cars."
Meanwhile, several Los Angeles film premieres have been canceled due to the blazes. Amazon MGM Studios and Universal Studios canceled their scheduled premieres of "Unstoppable" and "Wolf Man" on Tuesday, Variety reported. At the same time, Paramount and Max pulled the premieres of "Better Man" and "The Pitt" planned for Wednesday.
"Due to the dangerous conditions affecting Los Angeles, we are canceling tomorrow's premiere of 'Better Man,'" a Paramount spokesperson said in a statement to the outlet. "Our thoughts are with those impacted by the devastating fires resulting from these conditions, and we encourage everyone to stay safe and follow guidance and orders from local officials and government agencies."
HBO and Max released a statement with a similar sentiment.
"Out of an abundance of caution due to the ongoing Palisades Fire and continued wind advisories through tomorrow, we are canceling Wednesday's premiere event for 'The Pitt.,'" the statement read. "The safety and well-being of our attendees, staff, and community are our top priority. We are grateful for the first responders bravely working to protect our community, and our thoughts are with those affected. Stay safe!"
