Vin Diesel has dropped a not-so-subtle hint that he may be appearing in the "Avatar" sequels.
Last year director James Cameron confirmed that production of "Avatar 2" had been completed and that they were on the verge of wrapping up shooting for the third installment of the sci-fi franchise. There are two more sequels planned and based on an interview Diesel did with MTV News reporter Josh Hororwitz, it seems as if the "Fast and the Furious" star will be appearing in the films.
Addressing the rumors during the interview, Hororwitz asked Diesel directly whether or not the speculation was true that he had been working with Cameron on the films.
"I have spent time with him, but I have not filmed yet," Diesel responded.
Hororwitz was quick to pick up on the actor's use of the word "yet."
"So will Vin Diesel be in the 'Avatar' sequels?" he asked.
"I love James Cameron, and I love the series, and I think it’s safe to say that we will be working together," Diesel replied after a pause.
This is not the first time Diesel teased that he would appear in the "Avatar." In 2019, he posted a video on Instagram of him and Cameron on the set of the film's sequels.
"So here we are on the set of Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5," Cameron said. "This is top secret, this is like The Manhattan Project. My buddy Vin [is here], and we’re actually going to give him the flashy thing from 'Men in Black' after he leaves here so he has no memory whatsoever of what he’s seen because he cannot carry the tale."
It was what Diesel said next that got fans excited.
"It’s long overdue," he said. "There is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from, and so all things come to those who wait."
Diesel has been making the rounds to promote "F9," the latest chapter in the "Fast and the Furious" series, and last week shocked fans when he announced that the saga would be coming to an end following the release of two more films, which could premiere in 2023, then 2024.
"Every story deserves its own ending," he said during an interview with Associated Press. "I know people are going to feel like it doesn’t have to end, but I think all good things should. There are reasons for a finale. I think this franchise has deserved it."
Director Justin Lin confirmed the news.
"Nine is kind of the first film of the final chapter. We’re kind of reconfiguring everything, so that the next two movies should wrap up this amazing journey for these characters," he said.
