Vice President Kamala Harris received yet another addition to her growing official portfolio from President Joe Biden last week. She’s now spearheading the effort of Democrats to federalize our elections.

There’s just one problem – she’s likely going to fail.

Kamala Harris may be the nation’s vaunted first woman vice president, but she’s quickly learning the knives at the White House are very long.

Conservatives are not apt to have a great deal of sympathy for Harris, for a range of reasons.

Back in February, I wrote about the development of our new multi-polar presidency that would serve to weaken Biden from the start. The Kamala Harris factor was certainly part of that calculus.

It would be a safe bet that few observers saw senior Democrats slamming the door in her face so quickly once they used her to win last year. Desperate to stop the bleeding with Blacks and bolster Biden’s left-wing bona fides, strategists found Harris to be an intersectionalist’s dream; Indian and Caribbean, she could be marketed to voters as both Black and Asian; A woman, she would make history on the ticket; A voting record to the left of Bernie Sanders, she made her mark during her brief Senate career as a leftist.

Heralding the arrival of the first woman Vice President of color and then treating her like a token player set up to fail is offensive on its face, whether you agree with the administration’s policies or not.

Harris is increasingly a prop, rolled out in shameless fashion to give the aging Biden the patina of credibility on issues of race he’s largely ignored during his half century in Washington. She’s become an accoutrement to a race-obsessed party bent on dividing Americans with labels based on various immutable characteristics.

Relegating Vice Presidents to the scenery in an administration is nothing new in our history. There is often a natural tension between the Vice President’s office and the West Wing staff. For Harris, something more calculated and sinister is happening.

Her portfolio seems increasingly designed to marginalize her both from a day-to-day operational standpoint but also politically. There are several likely reasons for this.

Ron Klain and others likely don't want Harris circling Biden like a vulture for the next three and a half years while she plots a presidential campaign. Those on the Left like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren want to lead their socialist movement, not some irrelevant vice president chosen because of identity politics.

The highest profile parts of Harris’ portfolio are no-win situations for her and best way to diminish her chances of being the next Democrat nominee. Failures on election reform and strengthening union protections will drive a wedge between her and the left. Failure to control the border crisis will maker her look incompetent with moderates and independents.

Taken together she comes out being viewed as unqualified and unaccomplished with little record to run on in 2024. The strategy already is already working. Recent polling data shows the majority of Americans don’t believe she’s qualified to be President.

The time for major policy victories is running short as the mid-term elections loom over Washington. Should the Republicans win control of the House or retake the Senate majority, the radical left Biden agenda will stall.

Good for America. Bad for Kamala Harris.

That is, of course, unless she changes her stripes like the political chameleon that she’s proven to be throughout her career in Democratic Party politics. Who knows?

Like the failures of the Obama presidency to address chronic challenges in the Black community, what’s happening to Harris in the Biden White House is more evidence that Democrats are interested voter manipulation than diversity, equity, or inclusion.
