At least one conservative has cited the hypocrisy of liberals and mainstream media members who promoted George Floyd's death but have said little to nothing about the brutal murder of a Ukrainian refugee by a Black career criminal in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, took to social media in Tuesday's early hours to lambaste CNN's Van Jones and other mainstream media pundits who "tried to silence" the murder of Iryna Zarutska.
Zarutska, a 23-year-old who fled Ukraine in 2022, was fatally stabbed by career criminal Decarlos Brown Jr. on Aug. 22. The killing gained national attention over the weekend after authorities released surveillance video of the gruesome slaying.
During a segment on CNN, Jones claimed that there was "no evidence" showing Brown murdered Zarutska because she was white, even though surveillance video shows the suspect saying: "I got that white girl, got that white girl."
"George Floyd died of a drug overdose after a lifetime of destroying his body with illegal substances. BLM burned down American cities and terrorized businesses for a criminal who didn't cooperate with police. His friends did, and they're alive today," Kirk wrote on X.
"How many black and brown people died post Floyd because police were afraid to go into urban neighborhoods for fear of being scapegoated if something went wrong?"
Kirk added that had Brown been a white man and Zarutska a Black woman, Jones would "be the loudest voice crying racism, Mr. Whitelash."
"The killer said 'I got that white girl.' Why did he say that, Van?" Kirk posted.
Other people used social media to urge Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Brown's actions as a hate crime.
"I'm calling on @AGPamBondi to charge DeCarlos Brown Jr with a federal hate crime," Chicago1Ray posted on X. "He's heard in this video saying, 'I got that white girl.'
"This guy can never walk amongst us again, and if he only faces state charges, odds are he will."
One example of the mainstream media's alleged biased reporting was evident using The Associated Press online search tool Tuesday morning, when 74,233 results appeared for "george floyd" and only 224 results appeared for "iryna zarutska."
Floyd died in 2020, and Zarutska was murdered less than three weeks ago.
