Newly sworn-in Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined federal officers in conducting immigration enforcement raids in New York City early Tuesday morning, one she said apprehended an illegal migrant who is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping.
Noem, who was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday, was out to witness criminal and civil operations conducted by agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Justice Department, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as DHS, which includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"Arresting some criminal aliens this morning in NYC – thank you to the brave officers involved," Noem said in a post to X.
One illegal connected to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua that took over an apartment building in Aurora, Colorado, was arrested in the Bronx early Tuesday, ABC News reported.
"Enforcement operation in NYC. Criminal alien with kidnapping, assault & burglary charges is now in custody – thanks to @ICE. Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets," Noem said in a separate post.
Noem was on at least two raids Tuesday, Gothamist reported.
Noem was sworn-in as Homeland Security secretary on Saturday after the Senate confirmed her 59-34. Noem, along with border czar Tom Homan, are the main driving forces behind President Donald Trump's pledge to remove the several million illegal immigrants let into the country under the Biden administration.
"We are doing this right – doing exactly what President @realDonaldTrump promised the American people – making our streets safe," Noem said in another post.
