Trump: 'Weird' That Giants Didn't Kick Field Goal

By    |   Monday, 24 November 2025 08:55 AM EST

President Donald Trump on Monday praised Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders while blasting the New York Giants' late-game decision to not attempt a field goal in their overtime loss to the Detroit Lions, calling the move "weird."

The Giants faced a fourth down with 2:59 left and opted against kicking a field goal that could have stretched their lead to six points in what became a 34-27 overtime defeat.

Instead, the Giants failed to convert their fourth-down play and Detroit answered with a game-tying kick to force overtime — and ultimately won.

"Why did the New York Football Giants (NFL) not kick that Field Goal??? Who would have done such a thing? It was CRAZY!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "I got to watch the end of the game and thought, when they went for the touchdown instead of the 3, 'That's Weird!!!'"

Trump reserved warmer words for Sanders — the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders — who threw for 209 yards and a touchdown in his first NFL start, leading the Browns to victory.

"Shedeur Sanders was GREAT," Trump wrote. "Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!"
