Federal Bureau of Investigation agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Fulton County elections office near Atlanta on Wednesday.
The action took place at the county's main elections facility in Union City, where agents were seen conducting the search.
An FBI spokesperson told The Associated Press agents were "executing a court authorized law enforcement action" but declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing nature of the matter.
A law enforcement official familiar with the matter told Reuters the search is connected to investigations tied to the 2020 presidential election.
The facility includes the Fulton County Election Hub and Operations Center, which was opened by county officials in 2023 to centralize election operations.
Officials have not publicly disclosed what specific records or materials the FBI is seeking or whether any items were seized during the search.
Neither the Justice Department nor the Fulton County District Attorney's Office immediately commented on the search.
The FBI's action comes amid a broader federal focus on election matters dating back to the 2020 contest, in which Republican Donald Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
Trump and his supporters have repeatedly claimed that fraud or irregularities affected the Georgia results in 2020.
State investigations and independent reviews have found procedural mistakes in some election processes but concluded there was no widespread fraud sufficient to alter the outcome.
In 2023, then-Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis secured a wide-ranging indictment against Trump and others alleging schemes to overturn Georgia's 2020 results, but the case was later dismissed after courts disqualified her office over a conflict of interest.
