Trump: Will Be Leaving for Middle East 'Fairly Soon'

By    |   Thursday, 09 October 2025 01:25 PM EDT

President Donald Trump said Thursday he will be headed to the Middle East "fairly soon," in light of the historic peace deal announced between Israel and Hamas.

"I'm going to try and make a trip over," Trump said at the start of Thursday's Cabinet meeting. "We're going to try and get over there, and we're working on the timing, the exact timing.

"We're going to go to Egypt, where we'll have a signing, an additional signing, and we've already had a signing."

Trump said that "all of the remaining hostages" should be "released on Monday or Tuesday" in what he described as a "complicated process" that will mark "a day of joy."

Earlier on Wednesday, the president announced a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas following the approval of the first phase of a peace deal. The agreement pauses the conflict that began with the terrorist group's attack two years ago, which killed around 1,200 Israelis and led to an estimated 250 hostages being taken.

Trump added people are "so happy" about the long-negotiated peace deal.

"I've never experienced anything quite like it," Trump said. "I've never seen such universal praise for being able to do something.

"It's something that nobody thought it was possible, and we're going to end up having peace in the Middle East."
