The IRS announced Friday it extended the tax filing deadline to Oct. 15 for Los Angeles residents affected by the wildfire.
Residents in Southern California affected by the wildfire "now have until Oct. 15, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments," the IRS said.
The agency went on to add that it "is offering relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Currently, individuals and households that reside or have a business in Los Angeles County qualify for tax relief."
Newsweek reported Saturday that the fires destroyed an estimated 13,000 structures, 11 are reported dead, and many have been injured. The total cost of the fires is estimated at $135 billion to $150 billion.
In April 2024, State Farm announced it would cancel 72,000 policies by summer, including 30,000 homeowners' policies and 42,000 commercial apartment policies. This included 1,600 homes in Pacific Palisades, among the areas hardest hit by the fire.
Local fire crews are reported to still be battling fires. Meanwhile, the Santa Ana winds in Southern California are expected to intensify this weekend and could continue into next week, creating a significant risk of further destruction in the Los Angeles area, National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Hall told The New York Times.
