The suspect in the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson once worked for a company in Santa Monica, California, and spent time as a counselor at Stanford University, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
Luigi Mangione, 26, a native of Towson, Maryland, was arrested on gun charges after being captured Monday at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a nationwide manhunt sparked by Thompson's murder Wednesday outside a midtown Manhattan hotel. Mangione has not been charged in connection with the killing.
The Times, citing public records, reported that Mangione spent time at Stanford University in 2019 and once worked for Santa Monica-based TrueCar, a digital marketplace for automobiles. TrueCar did not immediately respond to requests from the Times for comment.
A spokesperson for Stanford University confirmed that a person named Luigi Mangione was employed as a head counselor under the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies program between May and September of 2019.
Mangione reportedly earned bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2020. His LinkedIn and GitHub profiles showed he founded a video game club and later a startup for developing games, the Times reported.
