Melania Trump on Sunday launched a meme coin called “Melania,” one day before her husband, Donald Trump, was sworn in for his second term as president.
“The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now,” the incoming first lady posted to X.
Melania’s token has a market cap of $2.15 billion and was trading at $11.16 Monday morning.
In a disclaimer on the meme coin’s official website, potential buyers are told that Melania memes “are digital collectibles intended to function as an expression of support for and engagement with the values embodied by the symbol MELANIA and the associated artwork, and are not intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type.”
Donald Trump last week launched his own meme coin titled $TRUMP, which features an image of the incoming president raising his fist in the air with the words “fight, fight, fight.”
It soared on Monday to more than $10 billion in market value as he took office for his second term, drawing in billions in trading volume, while bitcoin's price hit a record high hours ahead of Trump's return to the White House.
Four-fifths of Trump coin's tokens are owned by CIC Digital, an affiliate of Trump's business, and another entity called Fight, Fight, Fight, according to its website. It says the coins are "an expression of support for, and engagement with, the ideals and beliefs embodied by the symbol '$TRUMP'" and are not an investment or security.
