China will give an additional quota of $500 million to the World Health Organization over the next five years, the country's Vice Premier of the State Council told the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Tuesday.
China gave $87.586 million in 2025 and will now give $137.828 million, trumping the last year of the Biden administration's allocation of $130 million for 2025 before Trump withdraw the free aid to WHO, according to reports.
Liu Guozhong vowed China's support for the global health body that has been rocked by the U.S.'s withdrawal – plunging it into a financial crisis.
"The world is now facing the impacts of unilateralism and power politics bringing major challenges to global health security," Liu Guozhong told delegates.
"Multilateralism is a sure pass to addressing difficulties."
