Biden on Hospital Blast: Hamas 'Gotta Learn How to Shoot Straight'

By    |   Wednesday, 18 October 2023 10:34 PM EDT

President Joe Biden, when told by a reporter Wednesday that people don't believe the Biden administration or Israel that Israel didn't have anything to do with a missile attack at a Gaza hospital, said the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas "gotta learn how to shoot straight."

"People all over the region are upset about the hospital," a reporter told Biden on Wednesday, "and don't necessarily believe you or the Israelis that they didn't have anything to do with it. Do you have a message to the people in the streets right now?"

"Well, I can understand why, in this circumstance, they wouldn't believe — I can understand that," Biden responded aboard Air Force One. "But ... I don't say things like that unless I have faith in the source from which I've gotten them. Our Defense Department says it's highly unlikely that it was Israelis, that it would've had a different footprint and have intercepted some ... anyway. And so that's why, if you notice it, I didn't say at first ... I wanted to make sure that I knew."

"And look, I'm not suggesting that Hamas deliberately did it," the president continued. "It's that old thing: Gotta learn how to shoot straight."

Hamas, which rules Gaza, claimed Tuesday that an Israeli airstrike was responsible for the hospital attack. Rebuking the claim, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in a statement, said the hospital explosion came from a misfired Hamas rocket. The IDF provided an audio recording of alleged Hamas fighters shouting that they had just misfired their own rocket.

But, according to the United Kingdom's Channel 4, which cited reports of Arab journalists, the audio appears faked "because of the language, accent, dialect, syntax, and tone — none of which they say is credible."

Channel 4 reports that, per its analysis of the missile striking the hospital, it doesn't appear to have come from Hamas and the IDF's intelligence report conflicts with visuals of the munition's trajectory.
