The Russian foreign ministry confirmed that three Russian figure skaters died in the collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter at Ronald Reagan National Airport on Wednesday.

"According to our embassy, three victims of this plane crash had Russian passports," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing, TASS reported. "There is confirmation regarding another, a fourth person who could hold a Russian passport, this information is currently being verified."

Zakharova confirmed the victims included figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova, Vadim Naumov, and Inna Volyanskaya. The three Russian passport holders worked as coaches in the U.S. and were on board the jet.

"Our embassy is communicating with the U.S. Department of State on the entire range of issues," Zakharova said.

All 64 people on the plane died. The victims included figure skaters, family members, and coaches who had been attending a national training camp for top young skaters in Kansas.

Shishkova and Naumov, former world champions in pairs figure skating, coached young skaters in the Boston area. Volyanskaya was a skating coach in the Washington, D.C., area.
