Newsmax Rising Bestsellers – Week of Aug. 4, 2025

By    |   Monday, 04 August 2025 02:59 PM EDT

One woman’s personal quest fighting the justice system to the finale of a three-volume series of a venerated president highlights this week’s Newsmax Rising Bestsellers. There is also a startling reexamination of the John Kennedy assassination, and the last is another view of the greatest political comeback in U.S. history. But there is also the fiction offering of the week, written by a master of the strange and mysterious,.

Going Home in the Dark,” by Dean Koontz (Thomas & Mercer)

Dean Koontz, a master of the macabre known for “Whispers” and “Strangers,” tells the tale of four inseparable friends at school, ridiculed as nerds and outcasts by their classmates. They reunite two decades later when one of the “four amigos” — the only one who remained in their childhood town — falls into a coma. After 20 years of being away, they’re actually drawn back to the town that was the source of their childhood taunts, as their old friend sinks deeper into his coma. Soon they recall strange things about the town, including a hulking, murderous figure. Things they had long forgotten. “As usual, I read Dean Koontz' latest novel the day I received it. And as usual, I enjoyed it,” said Luann in her Goodreads review. “He also threw in the usual sci-fi, current news, and pop culture references. I love that Dean keeps up to date with what is going on in the world.”  [Fiction]

In the Interest of Justice: One Woman's Fight Against a Weaponized Justice Department to Save Her Husband,” by Martha Byrne (Post Hill Press)

This depicts the struggle of three-time Emmy Award-winning actress Martha Byrne to seek justice for her husband, highly decorated New York Police Department hero-turned-private investigator Michael McMahon. What began with the FBI’s pre-dawn knock on the door and her husband’s arrest for what he contends was simply doing his job, turned into a five-year nightmare. Her efforts uncovered a politicized investigation of “Operation Fox Hunt,” led by individuals inside the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office into a Chinese Communist Party scheme. “Stories like this need to be heard and this story is a powerful one,” wrote Christine for GoodReads. “Despite all the obstacles and injustice faced, Martha’s strength to fight for her family was so moving. With God, no one walks alone, and her testimony is one of faith. In this book, you will see the importance of faith, love and family bonds.”  [Nonfiction]

Prophetic Statesmanship: Harry Jaffa, Abraham Lincoln, and the Gettysburg Address,” by Edward J. Erler (Encounter Books)

Henry Jaffa was the undisputed pre-eminent Lincoln scholar throughout the last half of the 20th century. He first published “Crisis of the House Divided” in 1959, followed by “A New Birth of Freedom” in 2000.  But he was never able to complete the Lincoln trilogy before his death at the age of 96, so he asked his student, neighbor and friend Edward Erler to carry on his work. This book is the result of that promise — the third book in the trilogy making up the definitive work on the 16th U.S. president. “From start to finish Erler’s magnificent account of Harry V. Jaffa’s lifework defies other scholars to best it,” wrote Ken Masugi, senior fellow, Claremont Institute. “In fulfilling his teacher’s command to complete his Gettysburg project, the seven chapters of ‘Prophetic Statesmanship’ recall Plato’s Laws. The tension between philosophy and theology requires Jaffa’s focus on the virtue of prudence to expose false accounts of natural right and equality today.”  [Nonfiction]

That Day in Dallas: Lee Harvey Oswald Did NOT Kill JFK,” by Robert K. Tanenbaum (Regnery)

This book’s author makes the startling conclusion contained in the title based on what he uncovered after his appointment in 1976 as deputy chief counsel in charge of the congressional investigation into the assassination of President John Kennedy. He argues that the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) for which he worked, was not so much interested in uncovering the truth as it was in sweeping it under the rug — even to the point of fabricating evidence. Tanenbaum believes that the revelations he makes will be confirmed when the JFK files are eventually released to the public. “‘That Day in Dallas,’ written by the deputy chief counsel to the Congressional committee investigating the assassination of President Kennedy, is an important addition to the literature on one of the most consequential murders in modern history,” wrote Herb Stern, former U.S. District Judge, New Jersey. “It will certainly spark controversy!”  [Nonfiction]

Trump’s Triumph: America’s Greatest Comeback,” by Newt Gingrich (Center Street)

In this instant New York Times bestseller, historian and former House Speaker Gingrich reveals how Donald Trump made an amazing political comeback, despite a nine-year effort to destroy him. They tried to bankrupt him, throw him in prison, and assassinate him. They lied about him, raided his home, and even banned him from social media. But he never gave up, and in the end he succeeded. Gingrich explains how Trump beat the odds and overcame it all, and describes what’s in store for the movement he founded — the Make America Great Again phenomenon. “In ‘Trump’s Triumph,’ Speaker Gingrich masterfully explains why President Trump’s intuitive connection to the Make America Great Again movement resonated so powerfully with such a vast and diverse coalition of voters, and how his victory could fundamentally transform the republic and usher in America's Golden Age for generations to come,” said Charlie Kirk, Founder and CEO of Turning Point USA.  [Nonfiction]
