Can We Link Campus Unrest to Groups Supporting Terror?

It’s taken awhile, but the counteroffensive against the campus chaos that’s been engulfing our university campuses is finally underway.

For weeks now, ever since the Hamas jihadi atrocities of the Oct. 7, 2023 Shabbat Massacre in Israel, Jewish Americans have been subjected to an explosion of Jew-hatred expressed both on-campus and off.

Our country has been subjected to physical assault against Jewish students, those standing with them, and police and security forces; pro-Hamas occupation encampments; property damage; and scurrilous slander against Israel and Jews everywhere.

Chants of "From the River to the Sea" make clear the genocidal intent of these terror-supporters. But when the target of their attacks shifted from just Jews and Israel to America itself, we knew this was about more than simply a bunch of ignorant, Jew-hating juveniles.

Indeed, an early indicator of what this was really about played out on the streets of Washington, D.C. on a Saturday in mid-January 2024.

That day, a gaggle of Hamas-supporters gathered at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue to bleat their hatred for Israel and the Jewish people and unconditional backing for an Islamic terror group.

By nightfall, the mob had turned into a riot that marched on the White House and (unsuccessfully) attempted to breach the security fence around it.

What we need to note, however, is the long list of "Endorsing Organizations" still available as of this writing to view at the event’s website

That list of organizations, not all of which were present on Jan. 13 2024, reads like a "Who’s Who" of the Muslim Brotherhood in America plus a collection of their Communist/Marxist comrades.

In other words, they informed us of the more than 350 members of the "Red-Green Axis" Fifth Column currently operating inside the United States (U.S.).

In addition to the usual Brotherhood suspects — American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), Muslim American Society (MAS), the Muslim Students Association (MSA), and at least one branch of the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) — there was a whole set of Communist organizations.

Among these were Communist Party USA, the D.C. Communist Party, the D.C. Young Communist League, League of Young Communists USA, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, and the World Workers Party.

Do most Americans even realize there are this many openly communist-inclined organizations of this type in the United States today — or that they are operating in open collaboration with the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood?

Worse yet, officials linked to the seemingly communist-inclined Muslim Brotherhood operate at the top levels of the U.S. government and national security.

Robert Spencer discussed Maher Bitar, one of these, in a May 13, 2024 article at Front Page Magazine. Bitar, who’s just been appointed President Joe Biden’s special counsel, also serves as director of intelligence and defense programs at the National Security Council.

But here we have direct linkage to campus chaos that is the subject of this piece: while a student at Georgetown University, Bitar was chapter president of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) there.

SJP, founded at the University of California Berkeley in 1992, is the campus branch of Americans for Muslims in Palestine (AMP).

AMP is a direct branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and a founding member of the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the Brotherhood’s U.S. political umbrella group, founded in 2014.

Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian has chaired AMP and also is responsible for launching SJP at UC Berkeley.

Under AMP and Bazian’s guidance, SJP expanded to form National SJP in 2010 to coordinate SJP’s often violent antisemitic campus activities across the country.

The campus chaos connections do not stop at America’s water’s edge, however.

Beginning even before the 2014 establishment of the USCMO, a close working relationship between eventual members of the USCMO and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Muslim Brotherhood-supporting AKP ("Justice and Development Party") had begun.

Notably, 2014 was also the year that the sprawling 16-acre Turkish government site at the Diyanet Center of America in Lanham, Maryland was formally opened.

The USCMO-AKP relationship is grounded in their shared support for HAMAS, a listed U.S. Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and its parent organization, the Muslim Brotherhood itself.

We have one example of the importance of that relationship from 2014, when a USCMO delegation that included AMP National Director Osama Abu-Irshaid attended a conference hosted by the Turkish AKP in honor of newly-elected President Erdogan.

Returning to the recent campus chaos here in the U.S. NSJP has taken a leading role in that chaos and on May 1, 2024, the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, the National Jewish Advocacy Center, the Schoen Law Firm, and the Holtzman Vogel law firm filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of Virginia, Alexandria Division against AMP and the NSJP.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for American and Israeli victims of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attack. The lawsuit holds AMP and NSJP accountable because they have been openly, materially supportive of FTO-listed HAMAS’ horrific acts of international terrorism.

Only lacking thus far is a final connecting of the dots from the Muslim Brotherhood Government of Turkey to the AMP and NSJP.

Let's encourage a detailed investigation in that direction.
