Wednesday, 11 December 2024 07:09 AM EST

Russia has sent the U.S. a request asking Washington to approve Moscow's new ambassador to the United States, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesday, the state RIA news agency reported.

In November, Russia's Kommersant newspaper reported Alexander Darchiev, currently head of the Foreign Ministry's North American department, was likely to be named as Moscow's new ambassador to Washington.
