Many people find that mind-body methods work better for them than meditation for reducing stress. Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice that integrates movements, poses, and breathing routines to promote relaxation. It improves flexibility and balance, and has been shown to reduce stress.

Yoga also reduces symptoms of depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, and lowers inflammation.

Although the poses appear to be static, they provide aerobic and strength training that bolsters brain function.

Tai chi is a traditional Chinese practice that improves relaxation and balance. Many tai chi sequences look like martial arts in slow motion, and they avoid the jarring movements involved in other types of exercise, which can aggravate joint problems.

Tai chi has been shown to improve immune function and reduce symptoms of fatigue, pain, anxiety, and depression.
