The race between Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his challenger, Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, remains close, according to a University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs.

Cruz leads Allred 46.6% to 44.5% among likely voters with 6.4% of likely voters saying they remain undecided. The numbers are unchanged from the last survey the University of Houston conducted in June.

Cruz is the favorite in the red state as he runs for a third term, with the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rating the race as “likely Republican.”

Allred leads Cruz among women, 49% to 42%, while Cruz holds beats Allred among men, 52% to 39%.

The survey found 57% of white Texans intend to vote for Cruz compared to 40% who intend to vote for Allred while 46% of Latino Texans intend to vote for Allred with 40% intending to vote for Cruz.

Former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris in the Lone Star State, 49.5% to 44.6%, according to the survey. Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is expected to drop out of the race Friday and endorse Trump, polls at 2%.

Harris polls 4% higher than President Joe Biden did when the survey was conducted in June. Trump also saw his polling increase by .6% from the June survey while Kennedy dropped more than 2%.

The survey was conducted Aug. 5-16 and featured 1,365 people, with a margin of error of 2.65 points.
