Trump Releases Campaign Ad Following New Charges

By    |   Friday, 28 July 2023 03:50 PM EDT

Former President Donald Trump released an advertisement Friday for his 2024 presidential campaign hours after the Department of Justice unveiled new charges against him.

The ad, posted on Truth Social, highlights what Republicans are calling the department's double standard in going after him while overlooking accusations against President Joe Biden and his family.

"Acting just like a corrupt Third-World dictator, Biden has unleashed a cadre of unscrupulous government bureaucrats he controls to act like rabid wolves and attack his greatest threat — launching one of the greatest witch hunts in history," the ad states.

"But Biden's underestimated the intelligence of voters," it continues, "and Trump's support is growing even stronger as hard-working Americans come together in huge numbers to stand with the one person they know has their backs and will fight to make America great again."

While the narrator speaks, the video flaunts an image of a new Harvard-Harris survey showing Trump beating Biden by around 5 percentage points in a hypothetical rematch.

It's then followed by an image of an NBC News article from last month noting that Trump's lead in the Republican primary against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other contenders grew after his second indictment.

The ad's release follows DOJ special counsel Jack Smith's decision to update his office's indictment against Trump, including three new counts related to Trump allegedly asking a staffer to obstruct a federal probe.

According to the indictment filed in the federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Trump asked the staffer at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, to delete potentially incriminating camera footage.

Trump and his legal team have rejected the claims.
