Corey Lewandowski, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump, scoffed at the idea of a Democrat congressman filing articles of impeachment against the president.
Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, on Wednesday said he plans to bring articles of impeachment against Trump for suggesting the U.S. should take over the Gaza Strip.
"The movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done," Green said from the House floor. "I also rise to say that the impeachment movement is going to be a grass-up movement, not a top down. The people have got to move forward. The people have to demand it, and when the people demand it, it will be done."
Lewandowski said Thursday on Newsmax's "American Agenda" that Green was simply looking for attention. Green previously filed articles of impeachment against Trump in 2017, months into Trump's first term.
"The only thing you can impeach Donald Trump for is standing up for the American people and that he is guilty as charged, putting America first," Lewandowski said. "If that's the charge, then absolutely he is guilty. If it is relooking at how taxpayer money is being spent, then guilty as charged."
Lewandowski said Green believes illegal immigrants to have more rights than American citizens.
"We have a new era here in Washington, D.C, and that era is one that is America first," Lewandowski said. "It's not America alone, but it is going to mean that for a change, we're going to take care of our people."
