Rep. Greg Murphy to Newsmax: Action on DirecTV Censorship 'Very, Very Soon'

By    |   Saturday, 04 February 2023 01:59 PM EST

DirecTV's "problematic" political discrimination against conservatives and Newsmax will lead to congressional action "very, very soon," according to Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C.

"I think it can happen very quickly," Murphy told Newsmax's "Saturday Agenda." "You know, people at first don't quite understand this: Newsmax is asking for carriage fees just like all the liberal networks are saying.

"And then DirecTV is saying, 'No, we're not going to pay those.'

"It gives an extreme semblance that DirecTV is saying, 'All right, we're not going to do this to conservative networks OAN or Newsmax,' and so it's problematic in that regard."

DirecTV said it was taking the step as a "cost-cutting" – a similar claim made after it deplatformed OAN last year. DirecTV continues to carry 22 liberal news channels, many with low ratings and all get paid hefty license fees. Newsmax was seeking a small fee, as the nation's 4th highest-rated cable news channel.

"All news needs to be able to be viewed by the American public and balanced news for that regard," Murphy said. quot;I anticipate us seeing something from that very, very soon."

Murphy is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, the chief tax-writing committee in the House. It derives a large share of its jurisdiction from Article I, Section VII of the U.S. Constitution which declares, "All Bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives."

Actions to Take Now

1. DirecTV customers call toll free at 877-763-9762 to cancel/complain.

2. AT&T customers call toll free at 888-855-2338 to cancel/complain for U-verse, cellular and wireless services.

3. Call your congressman or senator at 202-224-3121 and demand they stop AT&T/DirecTV's censorship of NEWSMAX — ask them to give you a date on the hearings!
