Mucarsel-Powell Outraises Scott in Fla. Senate Race

By    |   Friday, 18 October 2024 01:58 PM EDT

Florida Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell reportedly outraised Republican Sen. Rick Scott by more than 3-to-1 in the third quarter.

Mucarsel-Powell raised $15.1 million in the third quarter, during which Scott reported more than $4.9 million in new contributions, Florida Politics reported.

The Democrat ended the quarter with nearly $4 million in cash on hand to Scott's $1.9 million.

Mucarsel-Powell spent more than $15 million over the quarter, while Scott spent around $7.3 million.

Scott, though, is the wealthiest member of Congress and historically has used his own money to support his campaign.

Also, the pro-Scott super PAC Project Rescue America independently raised nearly $5.1 million over the third quarter, closing the period with nearly $2 million cash on hand.

The Tampa Bay Times reported Friday that Scott holds a 48% to 43% lead over Mucarsel-Powell in the Senate race. The results are an average of more than a dozen polls since late August.

Floria Politics said Federal Election Commission (FEC) reports show Mucarsel-Powell collected $2.2 million in July and nearly $12.9 million in August and September.

Scott raised $70,000 in July and nearly $4.2 million over the quarter's final two months.

Scott also put nearly $1.6 million in candidate loans into his campaign during the last reporting period. That increased the loan total to $10.1 million.

The Scott campaign reported $14.1 million in total debt.

Earlier this month, it was reported Scott ramped up campaign efforts with a $10 million ad buy in his race against Mucarsel-Powell.

Scott targeted key Florida media markets in Tampa, Orlando, and Miami, his campaign said, according to NBC News.

Scott is a former Florida governor who defeated incumbent Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson in 2018.

The Hill reported Tuesday that Republicans were optimistic about their chances of winning control of the Senate in the upcoming general election due to strong GOP support in the South and Midwest.
