The Social Security Administration has been shelling out billions of dollars each year in improper payments despite nearly a decade of prodding from House Republicans to fix the problem.

On the final day of 2024, those same Republicans cheered the administration's decision to adopt the use of a payroll information exchange finally they said should save billions each year.
