The average age of the 119th Congress is 79 days older than the last Congress and the third oldest in history according to NBC News.
The average member of Congress is 58.9 years old, the third oldest since 1789. The Senate's average age is 63.8 years old, while the average age of the House is 57.7 years old.
Only the Congresses that began in 2017 and 2021 were older, according to NBC News.
The median age of the Senate is nearly 65, while 49 members are at that age, according to NBC News data.
While a majority of the Senate represents the baby boomer generation, Generation X is starting to gain ground in the House. More than 180 representatives belong to Generation X, while 170 are baby boomers, NBC News reported.
The minimum age to serve in the House is 25 years old. Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., the House's youngest member at 27, is too young to serve in the Senate, where the minimum age is 30.
Five members of the Senate are millennials, the youngest, Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., turns 38 next month. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is the oldest senator at 91 years old.
The median age in the U.S. is 39.1 years old, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
